How can the USA be known as the land of the Free?

I've thought about this for a while and i came up with the USA is not the land of the free anyone who says it is they are lying. If the USA was then land of the free then legally same sex couples could get married with no one butting in but only 6 states allow it that's not freedom. Also USA censors there are may anime shows that certain episodes banned that's not free its censorship that takes away from the first amendment. Also i have heard books have been banned from certain stores, schools, libraries etc where is the freedom on that there isn't any. So like i said how is USA free, so people tell me what your opinions are on this matter.
