Any good, interesting books?

I'm looking for an interesting book to read. I'm looking for something thought provoking, with hidden meanings throughout the book. I'd actually prefer darker books, like Heart of Darkness and The Stranger. And I would kind of prefer a book where stuff actually happens. Any suggestions?
