Should i even consider liking this guy?

Okay there is this guy, He has been texting me and stuff. I really like him and he told me he liked me a little bit as well and that I'm pretty sexy. and i was like okay does that mean anything towards going out and his like maybe i don't know yet. My friend asked him and found out that he likes me a little too. Except every time he is around his friends he is completely slack to me. We have been friends and known each other for ages and he keeps provoking me then being really slack to me behind my back. What should i do? Is he worth it?
