Why does Newt get a free pass when he did the same thing as Edwards?

Newt asked for a divorce from his dying wife with cancer while having an affair with a 20 something. He did this while prosecuting Clinton's impeachment as well. So why does he get a free pass when he did the same thing as Edwards?
